We are now living in a world that is vastly different from what it was just a decade ago and this has caused anxiety among parents who are working hard to provide what’s best for their children’s future. Technology, environmental changes, and lifestyle shifts play a major role in a child’s behaviorial changes.
Gone are the days when children enjoy home-cooked meals and play outdoor games with their peers. Nowadays, children often consume fast food items while playing video games on their gadgets. Many children have become couch potatoes with limited social and physical activities. As a result, a number of growing kids struggle with issues such as obesity, socialization difficulties, and attention problems.
Worse, there are factors that parents feel they could not do much about such as family health history which could potentially influence their children’s future.
Despite all these challenges, parents still have the power to reshape their children’s future. With their commitment, knowledge, and support, building a better future for them can be possible.
Nestle NANKID is committed to be partners with the parents to attain their common goal with PARENTOLOGY⁺, an advocacy to help parents take charge of their future with simple steps that can be taken right at home. These daily measures cover the different phases of life, such as diet and nutrition, exercise and activity, socialization, and creativity.
As part of their commitment, Nestle NANKID brought their advocacy closer to parents across the country (Metro Manila, Pampanga, Davao and Cebu City) and facilitated a series of activities for parents and kids to enjoy and gain insights from parent bloggers who have also their fair share of challenges with their kids but were able to pull through with some helpful strategies.
GOALS OF PARENTOLOGY
Parentology⁺ recreated a typical home and its rooms with three key stations on three important topics: Food, Physical Activity and Socialization.
PARENTOLOGY⁺ STATIONS
Parentology+ Station 1: S O C I A L
Today’s children are fond of playing video games on their gadgets. Many have become couch potatoes with limited socialization opportunities. The social station guides parents on strategic ways to solve their child’s problem on social skills.
The kids are asked to play on the giant piano following the keys to the tune of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star then they mimick the action flashed on the screen in the copycat game. These games help enhance the social skills of the children at the same time stimulate their creativity and confidence.
Entrepreneur and stylist Cat Arambulo-Antonio shares her experience as well to the parents in a video clip on socialization.
Parentology+ Station 2: P L A Y
Ages ago children used to play outdoor games with their peers. Now they simply spend their time glued to their gadgets and shy away from engaging in physical activities. As a result, a number of growing kids struggle with issues such as obesity, socialization difficulties, attention problems and many more.
With the Play Plus Station, the parents will be guided to reshape their child’s future in letting their child participate in the ball pit game – kids jump into a ball pit and in one minute, they have to look for five answers (glued to the balls) to the question given by the facilitator.
Football player Anton del Rosario shares how he got his son embrace an active lifestyle and love sports through a video clip.
Parentology+ Station 3: N U T R I T I O N
Today’s children often consume fast food items or food with less nutrition value that they end up being obese or sickly because of its poor immune system.
With the third station, Nutrition Plus Station, parents and kids gain insight on proper nutrition after watching the video clip of blogger Stephanie Zubiri – Crespi and Nestlé Nutritionist Ms. Aleli Magtibay.
Prior to the informative video showing, parents and kids play the Scanning Game wherein they scan food items using a tablet provided which they consider as healthy. The participant with the highest number of healthy food scanned wins the game.
Special keepsakes and lots of freebies were given to the participants and Nestle NANKID even gave away Instax SQ10 cameras to two lucky attendees.
