Kool Adventure Camp (KAC), the flagship leadership and citizenship program of the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI) and the first and only internationally accredited adventure education facility in the Philippines, passed the exams conducted by the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) conducted last November 20-29, 2017. KAC received a “PASS” rating for practical Patient Assessment exam and an average score of 92.54 with the required passing average rate of 70 for the written exam.
NATIONAL OUTDOOR LEADERSHIP (NOLS)
NOLS was founded in 1965, is an outdoor education school based in the United States of America dedicated to teaching environmental ethics, technical outdoors skills, wilderness medicine, risk management and judgment, and leadership on extended wilderness expeditions and in traditional classrooms. So far, NOLS has trained more than 280,000 students.
WILDERNESS FIRST RESPONDER (WFR) TRAINING AND CERTIFICATION
KAC’s 24 Operations and Support staff underwent an intensive 9-day Wilderness First Responder (WFR) Training and Certification. This is the industry standard for professional guides, trip leaders, search and rescue team members, outdoor recreationists, and international travelers. The scenario-based approach provided KAC staff the opportunity to test their skills against realistic situations, practiced and learnt wilderness medicine and protocols, evacuation and decision-making guidelines. And after the training, KAC was given a pass rating.
Certified NOLS WFRs are trained to conduct a thorough physical exam, full patient assessment within or under 15 minutes, do CPR for 30 minutes, provide emergency care even for multi-casualties in the wilderness setting and make crucial evacuation decisions.
