Seda Central Bloc Cebu Celebrates 6th Anniversary with EDGE Advanced Certification and Sustainability Milestones

Recently, Seda Central Bloc Cebu marked its 6th anniversary with an intimate media appreciation soirée titled “Growing Together,” held at its scenic 17th floor poolside. The gathering brought together long-time and new media partners who have helped shape and share the hotel’s journey since opening day.

From Early Challenges to Stronger Foundations

When the hotel opened its doors just before the pandemic, uncertainty quickly followed. Global disruptions tested the hospitality industry. In addition, natural challenges such as typhoons and earthquakes added pressure during its early years.

Despite these setbacks, the team adapted. More importantly, they remained focused on delivering consistent service and meaningful guest experiences. Over time, those efforts transformed obstacles into defining milestones.

Today, the property moves forward under the leadership of Ron Manalang, now Cluster General Manager for both Seda properties in Cebu. His expanded role signals continuity and growth within the organization. It also reflects the brand’s commitment to developing leaders from within.

“As I look back, we have accomplished a lot for Seda Central Bloc Cebu,” Manalang shared during the celebration. He also expressed gratitude to media partners who supported the hotel throughout its journey. According to him, resilience and teamwork made the difference during the most difficult seasons.

A Defining Sustainability Achievement

One of the evening’s most significant highlights was the recognition of the hotel’s EDGE Advanced Certification.

EDGE, which stands for Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies, is a globally recognized green building certification system developed by the International Finance Corporation, a member of the World Bank Group. Because the certification follows measurable global standards, it provides credible benchmarks for environmental performance.

In December 2025, Seda Central Bloc Cebu officially became the first hotel in Cebu to achieve EDGE Advanced Certification. To reach this milestone, the property complied with 28 sustainability measures and underwent a rigorous audit process led by its Engineering Team.

As a result, the hotel achieved:

• 43% energy savings

• 24% water savings

• 60% reduction in embodied carbon

These results demonstrate a strong commitment to environmental responsibility. Furthermore, the achievement supports Ayala Land’s broader goal of reaching EDGE Zero Carbon by 2026.

Sustainability Integrated into the Guest Experience

Beyond certifications, sustainability is visible throughout daily operations. For instance, guests were introduced to the hotel’s urban greenhouse during the celebration. Located within the property, this farm-to-table initiative supplies fresh herbs and select produce for culinary use.

Consequently, dishes served at the event — including the featured salad station — highlighted ingredients grown on-site. This approach not only reduces environmental impact but also enhances freshness and quality.

Adding warmth to the evening were interactive stations by Prutasan ni Adan and a curated tea experience by Equilibrium, featuring brands such as Dilmah, Torani, and Andros. Together, these elements created a celebration that was both refined and thoughtfully sustainable.

Ultimately, “Growing Together” was more than an anniversary theme. It symbolized collaboration, resilience, and shared progress.

As Seda Central Bloc Cebu enters its next chapter, the hotel remains focused on strengthening partnerships, advancing sustainable hospitality practices, and contributing to a greener, more resilient tourism industry in Cebu.
