Virtual Gabii sa Kabilin slated on April 16

The Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI) Culture and Heritage Unit, and partner museums and cultural organizations will hold the Gabii sa Kabilin One Night Only on April 16, 2021, from 6PM to 12 MN (PST).

The online heritage event will feature 16 museums and heritage sites in the cities of Cebu, Mandaue, and Talisay. For just Php80, participants will be able to watch from the comfort of their homes different cultural performances and historical documentaries that will cultivate a deep understanding and appreciation of Cebuano culture and identity.

The entire event will be available for local and international audiences and will be streamed through Eventbrite. Those who wish to participate can buy tickets at . Payments are accepted through GCash, credit, debit card, or PayPal.

The theme for this year’s event is “The Arrival” to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the Magellan’s arrival in the Philippines, the birth of Christianity in the archipelago, and the victory at Mactan, and to recognize the impact of the milestone in shaping Philippine and Cebuano culture and heritage.

Gabii sa Kabilin is part of the line-up of activities for the 500 Years of Christianity celebration of the Archdiocese of Cebu and in line with the Quincentennial celebration of the national government.

To date, Gabii sa Kabilin One Night Only is sponsored by Pilipino Cable Corp. (SkyCable), Visayan Electric Company, Inc. (VECO), and supported by Junior Chamber International (JCI) Cebu Sinulog, and Philippine Junior Jaycees (JJC Philippines).

 

Initiated in 2007 by RAFI, Gabii sa Kabilin aims to celebrate Cebu’s rich history, cultivate a sense of pride of place among Cebuanos, and help preserve local culture and heritage by encouraging Cebuanos to visit museums.

Gabii sa Kabilin launched its monthly activities during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic last year to continue educating Cebuanos about various topics related to local culture and heritage, and make cultural education more accessible to the public.
