Great news to those who did not have the chance to catch its Manila run in 2018, you can now watch M. Butterfly as it stages its final performances from March 14 to 17 at the Centerstage of SM Seaside City Cebu.
After their 21 performances in Manila at the Maybank Performing Arts Theater, Tony and Grammy award-winning producer Jhett Tolentino and FRONTROW Entertainment took a bolder step this year bringing the timeless masterpiece of David Henry Hwang, M. Butterfly to major cities in the Philippines. This endeavor is a part of their advocacy in the performing arts to broaden people’s exposure to the arts and culture and to reach out to charitable institutions in each host city.
Cebu is the last leg of their 2019 Philippine Tour after their performances in Iloilo and Dumaguete last month.
The Tony Award-winning play paints a controversial love affair of French Diplomat Rene Gallimard and Chinese Opera Singer Song Liling. It is loosely based on a true story that took place in the 1980s. The play is both entertaining and thought provoking, at the same time.
Rene Gallimard will be portrayed by French actor, Olivier Borten and Song Liling’s character will be played by RS Francisco and Aira Igarta (alternate). Completing the M. Butterfly cast are Jenine Desiderio, Norm Mcleod, Lee O’Brian, Mayen Estañero, and Maya Encila.
The revival production is the winner of the 2018 Aliw Awards for Best Play, Best Actor and Best Director and nominations for Best Featured Actress in a Play.
The M. Butterfly National Tour 2019 will benefit the following charitable institutions namely: Iloilo Prima Galaw, Philippine National red Cross Iloilo Chapter, Silliman University Culture and Arts Council, The Children of Cebu Foundation and the Arts Council of Cebu Foundation.
