The National Clean Up Day Coalition is a nationwide civic-led grassroots movement to combat illegally disposed waste by cleaning up the entire country in one day. It is a campaign that aims for a clean, healthy, climate resilient and zero waste communities.
PROJECT CORAL
In relation to National Clean Up Day, the personal effort of Raine Baljak and Karlo Soriano is to dive and clean up the shorelines and seas of Luyang, Carmen from 6am to 12pm on Saturday, September 15, 2018. This initiative is known as Project CORAL (Cebu’s Oceans Rescued And Loved).
Project CORAL has gathered a large group of volunteers that will be collecting rubbish trapped along the shorelines and in the reefs of the Pooc and Bantigue, Luyang in Carmen. Hoping these efforts will impact the locals of the area and attendees to value our oceans that surrounds our archipelago because it affects our resources and livelihood.
This is an effort to campaign the national government’s objective of “having a zero waste lifestyle, become environmentally conscious and aware about how our actions and choices affect our environment and communities”.
There are various roles for each volunteer: ECO-Warriors are clean up volunteers, ECO-Ambassadors promote these activities to families, friends, and neighbors and the ECO-Documenter records these activities during the cleaning up through pictures and videos.
