DX3: Dirt Cross Triathlon in Kawit, Medellin

Cornerstone Group brings you DX3: Dirt Cross Triathlon, an off-road 750-meter swim, 25-km bike and 5-km run triathlon event. It is shorter than the typical long-distance on-road using the mountain bike. This is a good avenue to enjoy the off-season and also an ideal preparation/tune-up for the upcoming international Xterra triathlon.

The Dirt Cross Triathlon is on April 15, 2018 in Kawit, Medellin. The race is in two categories: Individual (age brackets: 19 – below, 20 – 29, 30 – 39, 40 – 49 and 50 & above) and Relay (a mix of athletes regardless of sex and age).

DURING THE RACE PROPER

Registration starts at 6 AM and gun start follows at 8 AM. The whole race will be in the town of Medellin.

There’s a water station in every kilometer, marshalls in every intersection in the bike trail to avoid bikers getting lost in their route and life guards will be present in the Mahawak area to ensure the safety of the athletes.

There’s no cut-off considering the distance isn’t that far and everyone will wait for the rest to finish since this is a friendly race, according to Joaquin Moras, Vice President of Cornerstone. This is to emphasize the race’s theme, “Let’s make triathlon fun again.”

L-R: Engr. Jay Benueza (Project Dev’t Assistant – MPDO), Jonathan A. Rosette (Tourism Officer – LGU Medellin), Joaquin Moras (Cornerstone VP), SB Member Joevenus Inot (Triathlon Incharge) and Jon Ralph Init (LGU Coordinator for DX3)

“We’re encouraging athletes from the municipality to join and we’re also encouraging relay teams to join, as well, just for the fun of it. No need to think about your personal record. Let’s enjoy the scenery there and the beautiful beach pakapinan pa og take home na lami na buwad,” added Moras.

DX3: Dirt Cross Triathlon is also a kick-off of the week-long fiesta in Medellin. “The purpose of bringing the triathlon to Medellin is to introduce the fun side of triathlon to the athletes in the municipality since we saw the need to educate those who got the wrong impression of the sport. This is also one way of developing future triathletes in their municipality,” shared Jon Ralph Init, LGU Coordinator for DX3.

They’ll also be assigning different barangays to man the water station during the race and give incentives to the most lively and participative barangay to add more fun to the triathletes and to the people of Medellin. This will also promote sense of involvement.
